The purpose of Ninth Grade World History is to provide each of you with a firm background in the history of the world from Dawn of Man to our tumultuous 21st century. We will study social, economic and political histories from the perspectives of a variety of nations. During the year, we will read, discuss, and interpret primary sources as well as historical criticism. This class will rely heavily on student-guided discussion and group projects. In addition to mastering the content, we will concentrate on skills, such as effective note taking and studying strategies that aid you in other subjects. History is more a discipline than a subject. An understanding of cultural movements is necessary to master in order to be a knowledgeable modern individual. Yet, studying history and becoming a historian allows one to assess diverse data and opinions and, ultimately, become a critical and questioning presence in our world.
