Hello chess24 friends! I'm International Master Lawrence Trent and I'm delighted to present my new series: French Tarrasch: A repertoire for White. The Tarrasch is an opening that has been part of my repertoire since I began playing chess. This eBook is intended as a quick reference guide, providing only the moves and evaluations of each variation, whereas the video series itself contains a more in-depth and detailed explanation of the nuances and ideas behind this solid and sound opening.
The starting position of the French Tarrasch comes about after:
1. e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.♘d2
White protects the e4-pawn, and in contrast to the move 3.Nc3 he does it without giving Black the chance to pin the knight. The 'downside' to this move is that it blocks the protection of the d4-pawn, which traditionally gets challenged when Black plays c5. White must be prepared to organise his army in such a way as to be able to hold his centre together. The good news is that White is not only able to do this, but is also able to exploit his space advantage and, in a number of key lines, gain a nice little opening advantage. Games alamo world geography olympiad.
